Slow knowledge, engaged learning, open culture.

What is the fate of academic practice, where knowledge production is a slow, resource intensive process, in an age of fast-moving, fragmented, and free information? How can emergent technologies be put to effective use in learning to engage students in their learning when students – so-called “digital natives” – are primarily socialized as technology consumers not producers? What opportunities and obstacles to artists, musicians, and other cultural makers face as they use digital technologies to gain more total creative control and find few pathways to financially sustainable careers? These three questions drive my quest to cultivate slow knowledge, facilitate engaged learning, and create open culture. These three concepts also serve as the loose organizational structure of this blog.
